TOW Books is giving free books
TOW Books is giving free books
So, I was catching up with my blogs on Google Reader and came across this one link listed in Booksquares The Daily Square (September 9, 2008) as "TOW Books: How to fail at publishing a whole new way" from Maud Newtons blog. This September 8th post was written by guest John Warner, creative director of TOW Books, who talks about his idea to give away free books as an incentive to attract more readers to TOWs books, including his own. Its so crazy, it just might be a stroke of genius.
Word has been flowing since Warners August 8th post on Writers Digest, "TOW Books: An Exciting New Sales Strategy." I didnt get wind of this until today, almost a month later. Hmm, TOW needs to attract more attention! How they can achieve a saved status, Im not sure. Maybe they could learn marketing secrets from Twelve Books, who seems to be doing well while only publishing and promoting twelve books a year. But I am a little curious as to why Warner didnt share his ingenious free books idea on TOWs site until September 9th, a month after his Writers Digest post.
TOWs books reminds me of the kind you find when browsing Virgin or Urban Outfitters books section. Theyre not large sections and theres not a lot of foot traffic, but it would fit nicely with the other quirky humor books. And if strategically placed near or next to the lines for the registers, they could become one of those last-minute splurge purchases and stick in the consumers mind, like gum.
This is the kind of incentive a reader like me could only dream of... free books from the publisher! Im not a book reviewer, so Im not entitled to free books, or TOWs free physical book. But this is a great opportunity to actually review the book without a cent coming out of my receipt-filled wallet.
To start, I looked over the four available downloads listed in Warners Writers Digest post:
- "Really, Youve Done Enough: A Parents Guide to Stop Parenting Their Adult Child Who Still Needs Their Money But Not Their Advice" By Sarah Walker
- "Oh, the Humanity! A Gentle Guide to Social Interaction for the Feeble Young Introvert" By Jason Roeder
- "Everything Is Wrong With You: The Modern Womans Guide to Finding Self-Confidence Through Self-Loathing" By Wendy Molyneux
- "So You Want to Be President? Find Out If You Have the Ego, Bankroll, and Moral Flexibility to Lead the Nation and Take on the World" By John Warner
I dont know how long it will take me to read and review this e-book. But Ill try to do my part to help bring attention to this publisher while looking for a chance to get into the publishing industry.
As much as I like reading on my 13" monitor every day, Im still a traditional reader at heart who prefers the physical book in my hands to touch, smell, and read. Hopefully, Ill get that chance in the future as an editor and discover great talents on paper, just like Robert Giroux. May he rest in peace.
